Cancer is type of disease defined as growth of cells beyond control. At present there are almost 100 types of cancer and each is identified by the type of cell affected initially.
How these cancer cells work? When modified Cancer cells divide without and control and form masses of tissues known as tumors (but it is not the case in leukemia cancer in which it prohibits normal blood function by irregular cell division in the blood stream). Tumors developed cause of the cancer cells can interfere with normal body function like nervous system, digestion and circulatory systems and releasing hormones which alter body function. However, tumors that stays at one spot and show limited growth are considered to be benign.
More destructive and dangerous tumors form when two things occur.
- A cancerous cell which moves throughout the body using lymphatic systems or blood flow, destroying all the healthy tissues in the process called invasion.
- This cell during its travel manages to divide and grow, making new blood cells to feed itself. And this process is called angiogenesis.
When the tumor travel through the body and grows, destroying the healthy tissues in the process is called metastasized. The process itself is called metastasis, resulting in acute condition that is very difficult to treat.
According to a survey of American Cancer Society, the disease cancer is the second most common cause of death in U.S. and is responsible for 1 in every 4 deaths. The World Health Organization evaluation concluded 14 million cancer patients worldwide out of which 8.2 million died of the disease in 2012. (the latest data).

The process how cancer spreads
Scientists have discovered an important clue as to why cancer cell spread. It relates to its property of being adhesive (sticky). Some molecular interactions between cells and the stage that holds them in place cause them to unstuck at original tumor site. They become displace and move on to reattach themselves at a new site.
As per researchers this discovery is very important because the cancer integrity is primarily due to metastatic tumors, those that grow from cells then travelled to other part of the body from their original site. These are specified as secondary tumors. According to the research only 10% of the deaths are caused of the primary tumors.
The researchers at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, says that discovering a way to stop cancer cells from sticking to new sites could hinder with metastatic disease, and can help stop the growth of secondary tumors.

The researchers at the Institute of Cancer Research reported, they have found a way to prioritize the best drug gable targets.
During the research they analyze 479 cancer genes to determine which one is likely targets for medication. The research was effective – they found 46 new potential drug gable cancer proteins. This will lead to much more targeted drugs, also greatly cheaper.
